For 25 years, Lisa has been carrying around the pain dealt to her by her first husband. While she has moved on with her life, a part of her still hurts. As a result, she hates Valentine's Day, and has a ritual that she performs every year. But a surprise phone call may change all of that.I thought this was a really cute little story. As with any short story, there is not a whole lot of deep character development. We do not learn a whole lot about Lisa's motivations, and why she married Joey in the first place. And I am not really sure we needed to. All we needed to know is he broke her heart, and that is what we learn the most about.
Not everyone loves Valentine's Day, so this story is a funny little reminder of that. There was a time in my own life, after getting burned one too many times, that I too hated that day. But, things can be transformed by the power of true love. So, this story can appeal to either people who love or hate the holiday. All in all it was just a cute little story.

The Valentine Day Curse A short story edition by Elena DeRosa Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I like nice little revenge stories like this. Like the old saying goes 'Karma is a bitch!'
I'm going to search for more stories like these.
This short story is proof that this gifted writer has a fantastic voice and wonderful storytelling chops. What a wonderful ending, too!
I was hoping to get to know our main character a little better, although I realize there's only so much space for character development in a short story. But why would she marry this guy who never contributed the whole time they were together? And then why would she keep marrying a string of other "losers"? The story says she did, but doesn't explain how she didn't learn anything along the way.. until she magically meets a good man at last. Makes it seem like it's just "fate" who you end up with, not your own choice. I just didn't get much out of the story and I was hoping for something a little more positive.
This is a great short story, a tale with a twist. The author has a strong voice and smooth style. I look forward to future works from her. Great story for Valentine's Day...great story for ANY DAY! Recommended read...Enjoy!
This is the second work of Elena DeRosas that I have had the pleasure of reading and it only took me so long to do it because I was too obstinate to buy a kindle!
I was not disappointed.
Ms De Rosa is an excellent author and she shows a mastery in keeping the reader gripped until the end ( which is clever and unexpected)
The characters are very well crafted and engaging.
I look forward to the next!
Good writing. Good story. Enjoyable read.
The only thing wrong was the story ended too soon. I loved it. I'm a "hard sale" on 1st person POV, but DeRosa carried it off perfectly. I had fun "traveling" with the heroine, and she was a good heroine. Loved how DeRosa used the curse in the story. Was impressed and moved by her style and talent. This was an easy 5 star ranking.
