And the Clients Went Wild How Savvy Professionals Win All the Business They Want (Audible Audio Edition) Maribeth Kuzmeski Walter Dixon LLC Gildan Media Books Reviews
If you have been struggling to market your business, then this book has the answers you are looking for. I work with numerous small business owners and most are extremely poor at marketing their business. They simply do not understand the basic principles of marketing.
The first thing that will really impress you about this book is the discussion about the five principles of effective marketing. There is an executive summary but then the author goes into much greater detail about the basic principles of marketing.
The principles are 1) What are you doing that no one else is doing? You must build client/customer delight through differentiation. 2) Focus your marketing on benefits, results and a call to action. The client only cares about what's in it for them. 3) Go viral. Create memorable impactful messages that are worthy of being passed along. 4) Leverage your business network for incremental growth. 5) Execute. Good execution is better than good strategy.
Part two of the book starts of with a "Marketing Playbook" - a Plan for winning all the business you want. This is a 36 page, step by step plan to develop a marketing plan tailored to each individual. If you were to go out and purchase a marketing plan, you would pay much more than the cost of this book. This plan is well thought out and very detailed. It forces you do think through your current reality, what you are trying to do, what your clients/customers really want. If you do this exercise you will experience immediate, significant improvement in your business.
The benefits of the book do not stop there. She goes on to discuss how to build your brand on a budget, how to develop a referral system that really works, and techniques for creating a memorable experience.
One of the more valuable chapters is about your web presence. Most small business owners create what I call "ego websites". Ms. Kuzmeski does a very good job of discussing websites that work. Your website must be designed with your prospect/client in mind. Simply telling all about your company will lose them in a hurry.
This book is well written and because it is based on the author's years of experience working with a wide variety of clients, you will gain some valuable insights necessary to effectively market your own business.
You really get a lot of very valuable information starting with the necessary foundation. The rest of the book builds on the principles in an easy to follow method. As the author points out in principle 5, execution is the key to success. So read the book and then implement. You have a great step by step playbook, but implementing is still up to you.
Just imagine if you could get customers to become raving fans of your business or service!
That's the basic premise behind a book I really enjoyed . . . AND THE CLIENTS WENT WILD! by Maribeth Kuzmeski . . . why it was so great was because it gave numerous real examples of what real companies did to achieve that goal, including this one
* Throughout Texas, Buc-ee's gas stations have focused their number-one offering on what people dread most about stopping at a gas station the bathrooms! Each of the 30 Buc-ee's locations has incredibly clean, substantially sized bathrooms, along with full-time attendants to keep them in tip-top shape. Buc-ee's built its entire business around the bathrooms-a feature the company knew it could use to differentiate its business. The idea behind this strategy is that if motorists pull in to use the restroom, they are likely to buy. Buc-ee's employs more than 1,000 Texans, has been written about in local newspapers, and has even been featured on national TV. An ABC news segment about Buc-ee's told the story of drivers waiting hundreds of miles to stop at a gas station-essentially planning their entire trip around their stop at the next Buc-ee's!
I also liked this other approach that was used to grab attention
* Another individual decided to use his head-literally--as an advertising medium, listing his forehead for rent on eBay. Sure enough, he found a taker. The CEO of one company, noting that the young man "clearly has a head for business," paid him $37,375 to display its logo on his forehead-for one month!
The author, living up to the book's subtitle (HOW SAVVY PROFESSIONALS WIN ALL THE BUSINESS THEY WANT), also presents a useful playbook that can be used to develop your own marketing action plan . . . these 37 pages alone make it a worthwhile investment for anybody just starting his or her own business--or even if you've been in one for quite some time.
Lastly, there was a lot of pragmatic advice that anybody could apply immediately--such as this tidbit
* Be careful when you send your press releases. The best days for submitting this material are Tuesdays through Thursdays. And always avoid submitting releases on the days immediately before and after holidays.
If you are in sales or in business for yourself you will find a wealth of ideas and information in this book. If you are in competition with me I hope you don't read it! ;-)

I was able to get an advance copy and read it in one sitting. It's two days new and dog-eared, highlighted, marked up and ready for battle.
I purchased copies for all of my employees and plan on incorporating it into our employee development program.
These are essential skills for any professional who wants to establish truly valuable and rewarding relationships with the people they interact with.
This is an excellent book with lots of "meat" in the form of actionable ideas to really take a business to the next level.
It is written without a lot of "jargon" in a fun to read and easy to impliment style anyone should be able to apply.
I found it to be especially helpful and applicable to my consulting business. It is a great addition to her first book and both occupy a easily reachable position in my office bookshelf.
Highly recommended!
